God calls Christians to be holy, set apart. Spiritual growth and sanctification are a lifelong process: As God makes us holy, we are also growing in righteousness. In just eight chapters, Growing in Holiness: Understanding God's Role ...
One day when Amy was little, she and her brothers helped an old beggar woman. The people around were staring at them, and Amy was embarrassed. At this moment she recalled 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 to mind:
“Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw—each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.”
Amy decided that when all the things she had done in her life were finally judged by God she wanted them to be found worthwhile. She wanted them to be seen as gold and silver, not hay and stubble. She would never again worry about what people thought of her. If what she was doing was pleasing to God, that would be enough for her.
Amy devoted her life to God and to missions. She was always looking for ways to point people to Jesus and to love them. God eventually led Amy to India, where she worked to rescue children who were in need. Many of these girls faced severe persecution for becoming Christian, but Amy helped them as they learned about Jesus and came to know Him.
I liked reading this book and hearing about how Amy rescued the children. It makes me want to help children and tell people about Jesus like she did. You should read this book because it’s an inspiring story and maybe you might want to be a missionary too.
