Hymnology: Singing in the Victory

Posted by John Gardner on March 18, 2020

Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign in righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ~Romans 5:20-21

Hymn Story

Austin Stone Worship is a collective of worship from Austin Stone Community Church, down in Austin, Texas. They are one of my favorite group writing contemporary hymns, matching said lyrics with a modern sound. Their album Everflow is a collection of songs based on the book of 1 Peter. Singing in the Victory is the first song on this album.

Here's Austin Stone Worship performing the song:

Lyrics

I will not be anxious, Jesus you are near
The peace of God surrounding me casting out all fear
The hand that holds the Heavens is the mighty hand that saves
The voice that calms the storming seas is calling me by name

I’m singing in the victory, the victory of the cross
Resting in the shadow of Your redeeming love
I’m standing on the promise, the promise of new life
‘Cause I am Yours forever and Jesus You are mine,
Jesus You are mine

When I have forgotten the fullness of Your grace
Yes, I remember Calvary where You took my place

There is no one like You God, love immeasurable and strong
There is no one like You God, so lead this heart to sing in awe
There is no one like You God, love immeasurable and strong
There is no one like You God, so lead this heart to sing in awe
