Prayer in the Midst of Beauty

Prayer in the Midst of Beauty
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have set in place;
What is man that You think of him,
And a son of man that You are concerned about him?
-Psalm 8:3-4 (NASB)

I was recently standing on the deck of the ferry, enjoying the ride from Edmonds to Kingston, Washington. I have been on that vessel several times, and it never fails to impact me with the beauty in every direction. On this clear day, Mt. Rainier rose up in full view, majestic and covered with snow, even in July. The sun glistened on the water. At the park in Kingston, stunningly beautiful flowers surrounded the bench where I sat.

When God created the universe, it is as if He let His imagination run wild. How else can you explain the stunning presence of a mountain or the intricacies of a flower?

To add to the wonder, Scripture says the Earth itself groans waiting for glory, free from the impact of sin (Romans 8:22). All of creation is impacted by sin. Can you imagine what it will be when the curse is lifted?

We are so fortunate to live in an area of incredible beauty. Have you recently sat and looked in awe of God’s creativity and artistry? Take some time to do it this week. Stop and look and pray.

  • Praise Him for His power which created all things.
  • Thank Him that creation reflects His beauty.
  • Thank Him for the amazing truth that He loves you, cares about you, and longs to be with you.

Open your eyes and see. His wonder is all around you.
