Ready for Christ’s Return

1 John 2:28-3:3

Main Idea: Purify yourself in preparation for Christ’s return.

Introduction:

1. Abide in Christ
   • Continuing to trust
   • Continuing to take in God’s Word
   • Continuing to pray
   • Continuing to obey
2. Practice Righteousness
   • Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God
   • 2 Peter 1:5-7 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
3. Think deeply about the love of God the Father
   • New Birth
   • Adoption
   • New Family
   • Cleanse yourself from defilements

For prayer, repentance and growth

• What attitudes stain my thinking?
• What thoughts are unpleasing?
• What actions are impure?
• What assurance and hope make repentance and faith worth it?

Dr. Dan Jarms is teaching pastor and team leader at Faith Bible Church in Spokane Washington, as well as associate dean at TMS Spokane. He has been married for over 30 years to Linda, and has three adult children. He earned his B.A. in English at the Master’s College, B.Ed. at Eastern Washington University, M.Div and D.Min in Expository Preaching at The Master’s Seminary.
