Humbly Submit to God

Main idea: Pursue peace by turning to God from sin with godly grief

  1. Humbly submit to the God who gives greater grace (James 4:6-7)
  2. Resist the devil (and the world system and the flesh) and he will flee from you (James 4:7)
  3. Draw near to God in worship and trust, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8a)
  4. Look to the Lord for cleansing and purity in your life and heart (James 4:8b)
  5. Cultivate godly sorrow before the Lord (James 4:9-10)
    • 2 Corinthians 7:10-11

Implications

  • What areas of your life need to be submitted to God?
  • Pray to God, hallowed be Your name, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done…
  • What are the lies of the devil that you are tempted to believe? What truth do you need to preach to yourself from God’s Word as you resist, oppose the devil?
  • What is keeping you from drawing near to the Lord?
  • What grace do you need from the Lord as He draws near to you?
  • How does your life need to be cleansed and changed as you turn to God?
  • What can you do to further cultivate godly sorrow over your sin?
