Paul is giving instructions about how to live a life that pleases the Lord, in this case regarding meat sacrificed to idols. He is continuing the theme of the need we all have to pursue undivided devotion to the Lord and to glorify God with our bodies. In 1 Corinthians 8-10, he teaches us how to think about idolatry and loving our neighbors. In 1 Corinthians 11, he starts to deal more with how important our purity and devotion to the Lord is in the context of our corporate gatherings. In all these issues Paul is concerned that his readers understand what it looks like to glorify Christ and to live out the truths of the gospel in every area of life. Even if we do not directly face the issue of meat sacrificed to idols or express proper gender roles through head coverings, the principles that Paul teaches here will equip us how to glorify Christ with our lives in the world and in the church gatherings. Whether we eat or drink or do anything else, may all our lives give glory to Christ!
