Sermon Notes

Main Idea: You can’t stay neutral about the merciful salvation revealed in Christ

1. Offered

Isaiah 49:6 he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.

Isaiah 46:13 I bring near my righteousness; it is not far off, and my salvation will not delay; I will put salvation in Zion, for Israel my glory.”

2. Challenged

Isaiah 8:14 And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Psalm 118:22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

3. Revealed

Luke 5:22 When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts?

Luke 9:47 But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side

Luke 24:38 And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?

Implications:

  • Would you describe yourself as relying, denying or neutral about salvation in Christ alone?
  • If you are denying or neutral, what is tripping you up about salvation in Christ alone?
  • Since Jesus knows your thoughts, what kind of evaluation is he giving? What should you do?
